Hi there. My apologies is this is covered in a FAQ or on the SCO
web site, but I couldn't find anything.
I'm trying to connect our SCO OSR5 box to an HP LaserJet 5M with a jet
direct card. I've used rlpconf to add the remote printer and it just
doesn't seem to work correctly. Killing and restarting lpd and lpsched
will allow me to 'accept raw' and 'enable raw' (raw is what HP says should
be the name of the remote printer.)
anyway, what happens is that lpr will accept jobs, but the jobs spool and
never print. I get an error saying that 'printer raw waiting for auto-retry.
available.' 'stopped with printer fault.'
The problem is that the jobs are never getting to the printer. The printer
prints via tcp/ip from an NT box over the network just fine, and my linux box
also prints ok. The SCO box just will not do anything.
I am not very familiar with sco's lpr implementation, but from what
I know about printcaps, my /etc/printcap is ok. I've tried it using
the printer's ip number and it's FQDN. the name resolves fine, and
I can telnet to the printer, so i know the route is fine. the machines
are also on the same subnet.
Any ideas on how to resolve this problem will be mucho appreciated.
