SCO 5 don't like to work on this machine!

Hi Francisco
I have experienced the same problem.
I have an IBM DORS Wide-SCSI 2,1 GB drive
and after the installation of FREESCO (all seems to be ok !)
Open Server give the same error.
Today i've searched in topics and found a reply of Bela
that tell to another user to try to disable the feature :
RESET SCSI BUS on INITIALIZING of Controller SETUP.
There is an FAQ un Adaptec Web that advise to disable
Extended Translation for > 1GB Drive size.
I have'nt tried this solution because this problem is on my
Home machine, but in this week-end i try to solve the problem.
If this hints solve your problem, please tell me.

1. P/I-P55TP4N MB and IBM-DJAA-31700 IDE disc

Hi all..

I recently bought a P/I-P55TP4N motherboard with 16 megabytes of RAM and
256 kbytes of PB cache. And Pentium 100.
The BIOS is AWARD SOFTWARE (version escapes right now)

At that time I had 2 IDE hard discs.
Master Maxtor 7345  and slave Maxtor 7213. The BIOS setting
Oboard IDE was on Fastest.

This was all fine and good. Then i purchased a IBM-DJAA-31700 1.7 Gigabyte
IDE drive and problems started. To make a long story short the drive refused
to boot correctly on the Fastest setting. After replacing the drive once
i meekly adjusted Onboard IDE to mere Fast and now it seems to work.

I tried installing DOS 5.0 (ick!) and Linux RedHat 2.1 from CD.
The installing seemed to go ok but the drive wouldnot boot
and if mounted from bootfloppy it gave out crc errors.
(on the Fastest setting).

Question #1 is: What would i gain if the setting was on Fastest?
Question #2 is: Is the drive broken?
Question #3 is: Is there a way to make the drive faster? twiddling
                with hdparm?

This is what hdparm shows:
