Need C-Kermit 7.0 binaries for OSR5.0.0

Need C-Kermit 7.0 binaries for OSR5.0.0

Post by Frank da Cr » Sat, 05 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Does anybody have SCO OSR5.0.0 (not 5.0.2, 5.0.4, or 5.0.5)?  And cc
or gcc?  If so, and you'd be willing to make binaries for C-Kermit 7.0:

  http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/ckermit.html

please contact me.  Or just go ahead and do it.  Get:

  ftp://kermit.columbia.edu/kermit/test/special/unix.tar.Z (or .gz)

unpack, "make xxx" (where xxx is the appropriate target), and then
upload the resulting binary (wermit) to:

  ftp://kermit.columbia.edu/kermit/incoming/

with the name indicated in the table:

  Makefile         Filename
  Target           for Upload               Requirements
  --------         ----------               ------------
  sco32v500        cku196.sco32v500         cc
  sco32v500net     cku196.sco32v500net      cc, TCP/IP
  sco32v500gcc     cku196.sco32v500gcc      gcc
  sco32v500netgcc  cku196.sco32v500netgcc   gcc, TCP/IP

I've got the later OSR5.0.x binaries, but I don't believe they will
run on 5.0.0 (or if they do, it might not be a good idea to run them).

Thanks!

- Frank

P.S. Note that the regular C-Kermit 7.0 distribution at:

  ftp://kermit.columbia.edu/kermit/archives/cku196.tar.Z (or .gz)

has a typo in the makefile for the OSR5 builds.  So make sure to
pick up the tarball referenced above, not this one.

1. Last call for C-Kermit 7.0 binaries

Well, maybe not *last* call...  But since the C-Kermit 7.0 announcement
on new year's day, I haven't heard from anybody building it on MkLinux,
LinuxPPP, or Linux/m68k.  The C-Kermit 7.0 site is:

  http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/ckermit.html

Here's how to do it:

  ftp kermit.columbia.edu
user anonymous, password is your email address
  cd kermit/archives
  bin
  get cku196.tar.gz
  bye

  gunzip cku196.tar.gz
  tar xf cku196.tar
  make linux

(If you have any trouble with "make linux", try "make mklinux" or other
Linux-related target; let me know.)

To send in the binary:

  cp wermit cku196.linux-ppc-xxxv.v
                   ^^^^^ ^^^ ^^^^^^
                     A    B    C

A = makefile target (linux, mklinux, etc).
B = architecture (ppc, m68k, i386, sparc, alpha, etc).
C = is some indication of your Linux distribution and version,
like "rh6.1" for Red Hat 6.1.

Then:

  ftp kermit.columbia.edu
user anonymous, password is your email address
  cd kermit/incoming
  bin
put cku196.linux-etc-etc <-- whatever the filename is
  bye

We have more than 220 C-Kermit 7.0 binaries so far.  Let's make sure
Linux on PPC and m68k does not go unrepresented.

Thanks!
