Has anybody used Specialix RIO ?

Hi,

We are looking to possibly use Specialix RIO serial ports sometime in
the future. Does anyone know of any * surprises that these may
have in store ?

I don't have any direct experience with the RIO boards, but a machine I now
have has 2 of the boards and was used by a company that relied upon them.

In other words, I think they are okay.

If you are looking for a reliable product, don't use stallion, use specialix.
I worked for years with stallion product, and our customers are likely to report
failures on external power supply....
Effectively, specialix haven't any external power supply, so i decided to start
to install all specialix products now!!! And they work great.
The only worse point is that specialix is a DCE (where stallion is DTE) this mean you
have to swap some wire in your serial cables to make it work with it
(and this can confuse someone).
Enjoy,

Yep, I've worked with these boards before and they don't seem to pose any real
problems to the OS5 or OS4.2 operating systems. In fact they do seem to be
somewhat reliable. (to my surprise)  But as for the features found in the SW
driver interface, I still prefer the Stallion products, especially for ease of
use, easy to control/maintain terminals/connections, etc.

But if your choice is definitely the RIO, you shouldn't have any problem in
getting them to behave.

Hello Charlie,

One of my customer has been using this card for 3 years with 3.2v4.2. I
upgraded the system to OS/5 three months ago, it is running as well.

 Regards,

 Ulvi

Has anybody used Specialix RIO ?

: Phil.

The SI line seems to be rock solid.
The XIO works good after you get past the 50% failure rate on burn-in.
I am seeing lots of problems with the RIO on 3.2v4.2 and OS5.
I had to take one out of one of my customers machines and install
an Equinox SST.

I prefer the Digi CX line when I need some distance.

Hi Ulvi

Sorry to bother u! I have a customer that use RIO with 16 port RTA and Codec
6003 Mux (diagram below). My remote customer always encountered problem when
come to transparant print, the printer always print nothing although there is a
print job id appear.

  sco 5.o         ---                                   --- terminal -- printer
   with   --- RTA --- MUX -- modem ------  modem -- MUX --- terminal -- printer
   RIO

The printer is attached directly to the terminal. There are a few terminals
that connected to the MUX at the remote site.

I like to know whether u have faced any this type of problem. I have sent out
to the news group but didn't received any reply.

Thanks in advance!

Hi.
vi the /etc/print.rio and remove any mention in field er... I think is is
4. "IXON" save and exit and run config.rio -r to recompile the changes.
Works a treat (so long as your using S/W flow control.
