Very Computer

I have lots of experience with EISA & SCO, but am now trying an
install on PCI with v5.0 to which I have zero :-<.

I am using an Adaptec AHA2940 with the latest BTLD from Adaptec.
I enter: link .. alad325 as per the instructions, and the install goes
fine <it appears to anyways>. The routine flows into the hwconfig screen,
then advises to install the BTLD disk for alad325. When pressing enter at
this point you are advised to install the CD; the screen immediately reports:
Checking system state and loading installation files.
Please wait..
Shortly after I get the following error:
System Error 6:
 while getting fs type.

The only significant anomoly I notice is that nowhere in the above events
am I asked for a serial number..

Any advice would be appreciated.

You shouldn't need any special BTLDs to use the 2942s, but you must be
extremely careful with SCSI cabling and termination.  OSR-5 supports
the Adaptecs out of the box.  You should get the rs500d Release
Supplement and install it instead of the 1-disk RS that comes with
OSR-5.

Make sure that the Adaptec BIOS is set up with the > 1gig mapping
disabled.
