PII Notebook Recommendations?

PII Notebook Recommendations?

Post by Bob Salit » Fri, 05 Jun 1998 04:00:00

Anyone using a Pentium II notebook with SCO UNIX? The SCO compatibility
page is devoid of notebook compatibility info except for maybe
Toshiba (not their newest models) (I'd rather buy two Dells for the
price of one Toshiba).

Does UNIXWare have a better chance of working than 5.0.4?

Bob.

I tried to install to a Dell inspiron 233mmx (not PII) but it failed
when it tried to read the CDROM even when booting with various options.
Dell does not offer any guarantees - I would think the PII is no
different and anyway its an expensive way to find out it doesn't work.
And yes I had to swap my PC for a mates Toshiba [120mhz :( ] and it
works OK.
Possibly Dells more expensive model will work (not sure of its name but
not Inspiron) - you would have to check with Dell whether its OK.

I can confirm that Dell's Inspiron PII 266MH 13.3 TFT notebook
loads and boots SCO 5.0.4. The CDROM drive worked in the installation
process by using secondary/master setting. No problems whatsoever.
