Problem with Wangtek SCSI Tape streamer with DPT SCSI controller.

Problem with Wangtek SCSI Tape streamer with DPT SCSI controller.

Post by Raffaele Victor Rafa » Thu, 01 Jun 1995 04:00:00

Hi all,

I have a new problem!

Environment:
EISA i486 machine. DPT SCSI 2122 controller with 4 MB cache and RAID 1 module.
SCSI Wangtek 5250ES (or something like this) tape streamer.

Problem:
The streamer can write to tape (with tar and with cpio), but it cannot
READ from tape (neither with tar nor with cpio)!!
Each time I try to read, the whole system hangs!! The only solution is then
to reset it!!

The controller don't seem to have any problems with the hard disks. So I
suppose the problem isn't with the controller, but then where?? Maybe on
the streamer hardware??

Any hints would be appreciated. Thanx, victor.

1. Problem: Wangtek streamer and Future Domain SCSI controller

Hi..

I do have serious problems accessing my Wangtek 5150ES SCSI-
Streamer using Linux 99pl12.

Read and write operations are not possible.
Some commands such as "mt status" work, but "mt weof" for example
fails. The streamer starts operating and I get the following
message: "I/O error" - followed by endless "scsi0: unexpected interrupt"
messages.

Tyring to write data on tapes using "tar" I get:
"only wrote 2048 of .... byte, I/O error writing filemark"
with endless "scsi0: unexpected interrupt" messages again.

My configuration is as follows:

scsi0 : FD TMC-950 at irq 5 address 000CA000 options : ARBITRATE SLOW_HANDSHAKE FAST32
scsi : 1 hosts.
Vendor: WANGTEK   Model: 5150ES SCSI FA23  Rev: 08
Type:   Sequential-Access                  ANSI SCSI revision: 01
Detected scsi tape st0 at scsi0, id 0, lun 0
scsi : detected 1 tape total.

There are no other SCSI-Devices. The streamer is operating just
fine under MS-DOS. The address area used by the TMC-950 controller
is not used for shadowing stuff.

I set ST_BUFFER_BLOCKS to 4 in file st.c and
ST_WRITE_THRESHOLD_BLOCKS is also set to 4, but the
defaults didn't work either.

Please help
Jan - thanks in advance
