Umax scanner on Merge?

Umax scanner on Merge?

Post by Jim Thompso » Mon, 18 May 1998 04:00:00

I have a SCSI Umax 600S scanner that works great under NT but has no
available Unix drivers.  Is there anyone that might know if I could get it
to work under Merge and Win95?  That is the last piece of hardware (also the
most important) that I need to migrate and I am at a bit of a loss.

Thanks,
Jim

1. UMAX scanner support: umax-0.5 released

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I have released umax-0.5.  This is a driver which operates some UMAX
scanners connected to SCSI adapters which are supported by the Linux
kernel  The various proprietary SCSI adapters shipped with UMAX
scanners are generally not supported by Linux, and thus are unusable
with this driver.

Supported UMAX scanners include:
  Vista-S6
  Vista-S8
  UC630

Unsupported UMAX scanners include:
  Vista-S6E

Badly-supported:
  SuperVista-S12

Unknown:
  UG630
  T630
  Powerlook models

Full documentation from UMAX is included, as is some documentation for
developers, so anyone who wants can hack on the driver.  This version
features a significant re-write which should make it easier to work
on than previous releases.

If you have a supported scanner, a reasonably recent Linux distribution,
and a very recent Linux kernel (version 2.0.12 or later, I think), this
should build and work out-of-the-box.  Please get the file
ftp://tsx-11.mit.edu/pub/linux/ALPHA/scanner/umax-0.5.tar.gz
and unpack it.   Then:
# cd umax-0.5; make; cp umax /usr/local/bin/; cp umax.1 /usr/local/man/man1
Read the README file and the man page for more information.
Developers should read the README file, the TODO file, and the docs
provided by umax (explained in the README file).

This driver does not yet fit into the SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy)
framework.  Someday I hope it will, but I'm working on functionality
and scanner support first.

Here's the LSM:
