Lost Network, but Console is OK

Post by Jim Liotin » Thu, 15 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hello All , hopefully someone can help....

We have a Compaq ProLiant 2500 running Openserver 5.0.4, Visionfs 2.01,
installed using the Compag efs 5.19a and Release supplement id
rs.unix504.0.1.a. We have a Smart2 disk array controller running 3 mirrored
disks (6 total). We also have an integrated Compaq SCSI controller for our
tape drive and a couple of Equinox multiport serrial boards (one ISA, one
PCI).  The NIC is a Compaq integrated 10/100 adapter. We installed with
Traditional security.

What happened was we lost network access to the SCO box, that is no one
could access the machine over the network and we could not ping anything
from the SCO box. We could ping 127.0.0.1 and we could also ping ourselves.
A reboot solved the problem...for now.

Upon checking the /var/adm/syslog file we saw that the last error that was
posted was and  "out of streams error". There are also a lot of  rlogind
errors, which seem to happen almost every time a user logs on.

Enclosed you will find an excerpt from the syslog file showing the log a few
lines before the reboot an a few lines after.

1. am losing console on RS/6000-320

I have an RS/6000-320 with 24 bit graphics & Z-buffer, 19" color monitor
(model 6091), running AIX 3.1.5; the problem I am having is that, some
mornings when I get into work, I log in at the console, and when I
start up X, the console hangs.  the machine is still alive, and I can
get in thru another machine via rlogin, but no life at the monitor
(it is totally blank).  no disk activity, ps -ef from a remote session
doesn't show anything unusual that I can tell.

anyone out there in netville have an idea what is happening?

p.s. X11rte.obj is at 1.1.5.12 if that means anything...
