Are you sure that the hardware is all installed, enabled, configured? If it
works under MS-DOS, then the secondary port will be enabled and the I/O
addresses set, but MS-DOS generally doesn't use interrupts or DMA for ATA type
devices so those may be set incorrectly.

1. CRC load errors after switching CD-ROM from IDE port 3 to port 2
Setup:
Dell XPS 486V/66, 16Meg, Sony CD-ROM 76E-S, Creative Sound w/IDE port
(model CT2839) sound card, and Slackware 3.0 (ELF release, Nov. '95
InfoMagic 5-CD set).
Sony CD-ROM initially was connected to SoundBlaster card and IDE port 3
was selected.
LININST.EXE was executed, IDE CD-ROM was selected and boot and root
floppies were written. Lilo boot used first boot and then root
floppies. Lilo was unable to find the CD-ROM on IDE port 3 (though it
works fine under Win95). In one of the HOW-TO's for CD-ROM it wwas
suggested (very strongly) to use IDE port 2. So I reconnected the
CD-ROM to the motherboard's secondary IDE port, reconfig'd Win95, and
verified CD-ROM was still functional. Reran LININST.EXE to be safe
again selecting IDE CD-ROM option. Now when I boot Lilo never gets to
reading the root floppy. 'Boot:" message appears, then "decompressing
Linux..." followed by "CRC errror - system halted".
At first it sounded like bad media but, after several different
floppies, I'm stumped. Anybody w/an idea? Thanks.
