Hi;
I've tried everything suggested in all of the TXT files on the CD
as well as everything mentioned at SCO's web site as well as all
of the possible solutions mentioned in this group, BUT I'm still
unable to proceed with the install beyond the "choose installation
medium" screen, (the spot where I'm supposed to select the
SCSI CD-ROM to install from) error message that no device is connected.
It appears that the boot sequence just doesn't see the CD-ROM drive.
And yes, I have tried every combination of slave - master for both
drives on both IDE channels.
System configuration:
AMD 486DX4 120
32 Mb RAM
540 Mb WD EIDE hard drive
- I know this may be just big enough, but I only want
this system to use as a learning machine for UNIX
Creative CD620E 6X EIDE CD-ROM on port 1F0h, Int14 (yes, it is an ATAPI
drive)
-this drive IS NOT connected to a sound card!!
ASUS PVI-486SP3 Motherboard rev 1.21, BIOS Ver 4.50G 0205
The CD-ROM works fine under DOS and Windows3.11 on this machine
and Windows95 and NT4.0 on a PentiumPro 200 based machine.
And to confuse the issue even more, I tried to install SCO OSR using the
same CD-ROM on my main machine - PentiumPro 200, 64 Mb RAM, 2.5Gb EIDE
HD,
1.08Gb EIDE HD, Soltek MB, etc, etc, etc... and...... it started to
install ok??????? I aborted the install as I didn't want it on this
machine.
- I think this may prove that the CD-ROM is usuable by SCO OSR!
As you can probably tell, I am a DOS/Windows person with very
little UNIX experience, thus the reason for getting the FREE
software from SCO in an attempt to discover the wonders of UNIX.
Although at the present rate they will probably remain mysteries!!
Could it be something to do with the MB + BIOS as I have noticed
that the CD-ROM is not identified during boot-up (even though after
the drivers are loaded (DOS) it is identified and runs?)
Thanks in advance for some advise;

P.S. Also could someone suggest some usefull books/documentation to
start my
UNIX library as the TXT files on th CD refer to the SCO OSR handbook,
but
-as would be expected with free software- no documentation (of the
printed
variety) was supplied.
