AIC-7770 and scatter/gather.

AIC-7770 and scatter/gather.

Post by Sergey A. Nikolae » Thu, 11 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Hi. We are using Adaptec's AIC-7770 chipset on our pentium system under
ODT 3.0. Does this chipset support scatter/gather operations? If so, how
to configure it to enable this feature?

About half an year ago I was forced to disable scatter/gather in the
/etc/conf/pack.d/Sdsk/space.c file, since the system crashed repeatedly,
probably because AIC-7770 didn't not operate scatter/gather.

Since then it have worked fine. But about 200 users work on our system
and I want to speed up disks if possible.

There are notes in efs140btldoc that tell that at least AIC-7870 can be
configured to use scatter/gather by editing /etc/conf/pack.d/alad/space.c.
Probably the same can be achieved by editing /etc/conf/pack.d/arad/space.c,
but there are no comments concerning scatter/gather in neither
/etc/conf/pack.d/alad/space.c nor /etc/conf/pack.d/arad/space.c.
What have to be changed?

I'll appreciate any help.

1. Acer Altos 7000 and AIC-7770 SCSI controller

I have an Acer Altos 7000 computer (Pentium, 32Mb RAM, 3.6Gb HDD
Micropolis 1936)

I have tried to install Linux Slackware 2.1.0, using the scsi boot
disk, unsuccessfully.

I got the following messages while trying to boot:

aha274x: extened translation disable
      irq 11
      bus release time 60 bclks

Only a hard reset will correct the situation....
