sendmail - host name lookup failure

sendmail - host name lookup failure

Post by Gustav-Martin Olse » Thu, 14 Sep 2000 19:10:45

Hi,

i use OpenServer5.0.5 with sendmail 8.8.8 without DNS!
I've read the SCO TA 107682 and TA 107669, then
i've configured in my sendmail.cf the line

DDbundy.de
O ServiceSwitchFile=/etc/service.switch
OI-DNSRCH

/etc/service.switch
hosts files

/etc/hosts
xx.xx.xx.xx    mail mail.bundy.de

but i get the error message:
Name server: mail.bundy.de.: host name lookup failure

Why? Then i've used the version 8.8.5 and i got the same.

/var/adm/syslog

ctladdr=root (0/3), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=smtp,
relay=mail.bundy.de. [200.0.0.98],
stat=Deferred: Name server: mail.bundy.de.: host name lookup failure

Thank a lot for the help and best regards

Gustav-Martin

Do you have the 3 necessary patches to OSR5.0.5?  oss497c, rs505a and
oss600a?

Quote:

I believe that should be 'hosts files dns'
it's a resolution order not selection

Quote:> /etc/hosts
> xx.xx.xx.xx    mail mail.bundy.de

<snip>

What is in your /etc/resolv.conf file?

and in your sendmail.cf file under 'local info' mainly 'DD' and 'Cw'
values

Hello Scott,

thanks for the help, i've found the problem, it was a relay entry.
I remove the DS entry and then sendmail works fine.

Have a nice day.
