3C905B-TX and 3C980-TX -any known problems?

Post by Tom Jastrzebsk » Sat, 20 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I have noticed that 3Com provides drivers for SCO 5.0.4
for their 3C905B-TX and 3C980-TX NICs.
I plan on buing them. Are there any known problems?

We used in a new system the 3COM905. When we exchanged this card with a
new one the network did no more response and also the card was not
found.
The reason was, that there are different releases of the 3COM 905: There
is a release A and a release B. For the A release the software from SCO
works fine. For the B release you need the new drivers (also
downloadable from SCO)

The release is printed on the board in the upper left corner.

This should work fine:

ftp.sco.com/pub/drivers/OSR504/network/e3H/VOL.000.000

1. 3COM Fast Etherlink XL 10/100Base-TX (3c905B-TX)

Hi Everyone,

I have some trouble configuring a 3Com Fast Etherlink XL 10/100Base-TX with the
3c905B-TX with Linux. The driver recognizes it and configures it and eth0 is up
and running but nothing goes through to the network or comes out of it. Physical
connection is there, the lights are on. But not data gets transmitted or no data
comes throught it. 3c59x driver for linux identifies it correctly as 3c905B
"cyclone" and uses the io port 0x1000 and irq 10.

Did anyone come across this problem? If you have a solution can you please post it?
I would really appreciate that.

Thank you!
