Net access with Free OSR 5.0.4 (MStar-PPP)

How easy would it be to implement this sort of Internet access under
Free OSR 5.0.4?

Offline e-mail and news
FTP server
WWW server
Making my system telnettable

Here local phone calls cost $, so offline is good, online is bad :)
I'd like to make my system telnettable, how easy would that be?

I've ordered Free SCO 5.0.4 on Saturday. I faxed the order form to
Edinburgh - how long realistically does it take to dispatch the product?
It says 28 days, but I'm sure it could be done quicker :)

Revised anti-spam in use : remove X to reply -
'Xnetbook' becomes 'netbook'

Anti-spam thermonuclear warheads cheap at only $300!

That depends on your experience, I found it wasn't hard to do.

: Offline e-mail and news
: FTP server
: WWW server
: Making my system telnettable

Can be done, just have a look at my server.

: Here local phone calls cost $, so offline is good, online is bad :)

Well, if your WWW and FTP server should be public acessable it has
to be online somehow. Or is it just for your Intranet?

: I'd like to make my system telnettable, how easy would that be?

That is very easy, after you got the networking up anyone on the
network can telnet into the machine. A greater problem is to deny
that to some.

: Edinburgh - how long realistically does it take to dispatch the product?

It sure can be done quicker, hop onto the next flight to CA and visit
the SCO shop, I can imagine you can buy the Free OS5 CD-ROM there ;-)

But for that price, I could buy the commercial version, and have it
shipped overnight. And of course Customs wouldn't need to examine every
pit on the CD-ROM for micro(bombs/dots/soft) :)

Apparently, Bela says that the OSR licence is an unlimited demo. So,
SCO, why not let your resellers sell SCO for the cost of the media, and
then let them use Free licences from the Web?

(i.e. ship the packages w/o licence information)

Now, for a CD-ROM that works with SCO..
Anyone tried the Mitsumi FX400?

Things like that have been discussed, I don't know whether it's going
anywhere.

Yes -- when Free OpenServer first shipped, there were lots of problems
with ATAPI CD-ROMs, and the Mitsumi FX400 was the #1 problem device.  In
theory the problems have been fixed in OSR5.0.4.  I don't know if I've
seen actual reports of success, though...
