Hi,

Has anyone had any experience, good or bad, with any of the following
modems on SCO ODT systems (I'm running ODT 3.0 now, but I probably will
upgrade to OS5 before long)?

Supra V.34
Practical Peripherals V.34 Series II
Practical Peripherals V.34 Proclass
Cardinal V.34
US Robotics Sportster V.34
Hayes Accura V.34

Thanks.  If there's enough feedback, ISAPTTL.

We would highly recommend that you use the Multitech ZDX or BA modems.
They work very well with UNIX, and there is a modem FAQ that will help

Multitech makes good modems and their tech support people don't go
"Huhh, what's UNIX" when you talk to them.  They are UNIX aware and very
helpful.

We have tried the Supra and the USR Sportsters (and various others) with
marginal success, and you need to have different strings for each different
modem.  As they have gone to higher and higher speeds, the differences
between modems has really grown.  You need to pick a standard and stick to
it.  It will make your life much easier.

I also think the support people at MultiTech are very good and have been
extremely helpful with some tough setup issues for data/fax sharing.

Hayes Optima has also been a good modem for us, but frankly the people at
MultiTech seem to be the most UNIX aware group I have found in the modem
field.

We use mostly Hayes Accura 288 V.34's as they are inexpensive but most
importantly THEY WORK!  They will work fine using an unmodified hayes2400
interpreted dialer.   Plug and play.

The PPI modems are also a very easy to use and reliable modem.  Same results.

We use Multitech when we need a class 2 FAX device for Faximum or VSI*FAX.
Work great for FAX but take a little more work for data.

I've had no problems with my Practical Peripherals V.34 Series II.
