No utmp entry

No utmp entry

Post by Tony/Mand » Tue, 05 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Hi

We have a SCO openserver 5.0.0.d with net100 and AHS 5.3 loaded "it"
then decided to run out of space on root.I fixed the space problem but
when any user tries to login (ie it accepts the password) it then gives
the following message:
No utmp entry. You must exec "LOGON" from the lowest level "sh".

Then kicks you off. I can login on the X screen and initially can use
the help but after a while when I try to do any help functions it gives
me a scohttp error.
Any ideas

Many thanks

Forgot to read the SCO LIb found the answer:
Clear /etc/utmp
      /etc/wtmp
      /etc/utmpx
reboot

1. No utmp entry?

Hi,
This problem just cropped up with my standalone Linux box.

When I try to login with previous valid username and passwords
I get the message "No utmp entry.  You must exec "login" from the lowest
level "sh".

Any suggestions?

Ray
