How to install Trident driver - Answered

Post by Robert Simmon » Sat, 26 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Hello,

Thanks to all that helped me ( UNIX rookie )  get my Trident 9680 video
driver installed. Here is a method I used an thought I would pass it
along:

Instead of using the diskette to load the driver, rename the
'xscotgui.drv' file to '/tmp/VOL.000.000'.  Go into Software Manager via
scoadmin from command line or from System Administration in the GUI.
Next go to 'Software', 'Install New', 'From <servername>', Media Device:
Media Images, Image Directory: /tmp.  This will allow you to load the
driver.

1. XFree86 with trident driver (trident.o) - X cursor

I've asked before, but I still havent solved this one !

It sounds easy.

I need to start an 800x600x16bpp X server on a Trident TV out (EPIA MINI
ITX) with NO CURSOR !!!!!

That stupid bastard X in middle of the screen has cost me hours.

So far i've tried Playing with software/hardware cursor options In
XF86Config. I've tried defining a blank cusor and mask and then using a
script to apply it. I've tried finding the cursor files and removing them.

Anyhow ... does anyone know

1)      What is the BASTARD X cursor is called - what file is it in .. no honest
Remember this is the boring X cursor, not any other cursor (I can find
them) - just a plain old cross in black

2)      How come if I define a black cursor and a mask then apply them half the
time it turns the cursor off, half the time it TURNS IT BACK ON !! I'm
guessing this is a trident driver problem.

HHHEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP !!!!

Anyone - I'm reaching the stage I will have go for source and remove the
cursor the hard way, this machine could take days to compile X !
