Open Server 5 release question

Open Server 5 release question

Post by Robert P. Fri » Tue, 28 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I'm curious as to what the current "official" SCO release is of Open
Server 5 (Desktop or Enterprise).  We're on 5.0.0, but I've seen people
talking about newer releases.

If there are updates, where on SCO's ftp site are they?

$I'm curious as to what the current "official" SCO release is of Open
$Server 5 (Desktop or Enterprise).  We're on 5.0.0, but I've seen people
$talking about newer releases.

Well, not newer releases - just the current release supplement.
Your OS shipped with release supplement 5.0.0c.  5.0.0d is
available now, and as well there are a couple of other patches
which are not included in that release supplement.  You should
certainly apply the newer release supplement, and I think the
general wisdom is that patches usually ought to be applied as
well if you're using the component that they update.

$If there are updates, where on SCO's ftp site are they?

In the MS directory (MS:  Maintenance Supplement).  Check the
README file in that directory for the list of all MSes and the
files they contain.  You want rs500*.

Other directories (e.g. SLS, EFS) also have README files listing
the current contents of those directories, usually along with
one-liner descriptions of each file.  Have a look around the
SLS directory for the patches applicable to OSR5.

When looking at the patches, though, download all of the .doc.Z
files first, and read them.  Several of them are included in
RS 5.0.0d and so there's no point downloading and installing them.
There are four or five, though, which are not included in 5.0.0d.
