Adaptec AIC-7890 and BTLD's? HELP!

Post by GS » Thu, 23 Jul 1998 04:00:00

I have to admit, that one area where I'm weakest with SCO is the whole
question of btld's.

Now I have a new system, which announces on boot that it has an adaptec
scsi controller with AIC-7890 chip set. The default boot floppy, of course,
doesn't see the controller (else I wouldn't be posting this :-). I suppose
I need a btld. That's *all* I know. I tried looking at the sco site, but it
isn't very informative, unless you already know what you're doing. Hell, I
don't even know where to get the package names for the packages that are
supposedly on the btld disk that comes with the o/s. Certainly the docs
don't tell me.

I would appreciate some pointers, advice, instructions, or something.

You need the blad325 driver available from the Adaptec website.

1. UP2000's adaptec AIC-7890

Alpha UP2000 has got an on-board Adaptec controller.

Unfortunately, a custom-kernel compiled from 2.2.15pre14 panicked
without any message during scsi installation, independent of the choice
for
agged-command-queueing.  It has an on-board Adaptec controller AIC7890
that can do Ultra-2 SCSI.    Kernel-2.2.15pre14 has got aic7xxx v5.1.28.

A similar, not exactly the same though, behavior was observed with
the previous aic7xxx.c v.5.1.21 which was with 2.2.15pre13 with t.c.q
enabled.  I tested kernel 2.2.13 with tagged-command queueing (t.c.q.)
enabled.  It failed also.  The 2.2.13-0.9smp compiled by RedHat with
t.c.q disabled works.  It's got aic7xxx version 5.1.21.

How do you use your UP2000 system?  Do you use the AIC-7890 to
control your SCSI system?  What version of aic7xxxx do you use?
Did you enable t.c.q.?

I think I should stick in my extra sym53c875 in the UP2000.  Then, I
should give up LVD.  I am sure that I can enable t.c.q. then.

Regards,
