Logitech serial bus mouse?

Logitech serial bus mouse?

Post by Jerry Heym » Sat, 16 Nov 1996 04:00:00

We just got a new system in, a Tangent P166 (Dual Motherboard, with 1 CPU)
that has a Logitech Serial Bus Mouse PNP card in it.

Trying to configure SCO to recognize the mouse has become problematic.  Since
the card is PNP, we can't configure a specific IRQ.  we've tried IRQ 5 (which
is the one we've always used), and the SCO scologin console never comes up.
We've tried IRQ 3, with no success either.

The connector on the mouse appears to be a 9pin serial connector (as opposed
to the 6pin mini-din on other bus mice), but plugging it into COM1 didn't have
any effect either (obviously reconfiguring the mouse to be MouseMan)

The Mouse itself does say that its a bus mouse.

Has anyone else seen this beast - and gotten it to work?

Logitech's web page:

  http://www.logitech.com/logitech/212e.htm

appears to describe this monstrosity.  I quote: "The MouseMan(R) Bus
mouse features an innovative serial bus board which eliminates the need
to set jumpers."  I translate: "The MouseMan(R) Bus mouse features a
proprietary slot-eating board which eliminates the likelihood that the
hardware will actually work."

I suggest you get something else.

If you throw the board out the window, the mouse itself might work with
a normal 9-pin serial port.

Of course, the *first* thing you should do is call Logitech and demand a
Unix driver for the thing...

1. Logitech Serial Mouseman Bus mouse?

I have FreeSCO and a Logitech serial Mouseman bus mouse.  How do I
configure it to work with FreeSCO?

I am able to connect the mouse to the com port and it works.  Configuring
it as a bus mouse doesn't do anything.  I would like to use the bus board
that came with the mouse.

Thanks!
