print job stops at 130 pages !

Post by Son Trung Nguy » Wed, 18 Jun 1997 04:00:00

Dear Netter:

I am having a really strange problem.  I am trying to print a report
from SCO Openserver Release 5.0, however for any jobs that is very large
it stops at around 130 pages.  Happens when I was printing a job of
size over 200 pages.  Is there some settings on the system that is
limiting the number of pages being print?

I would appreciate any pointers as to how to figure a solution for this
one.

Thanks,
Please email

Did you print via rlp or locally. If you print via rlp, there will be a
limit in the size in blocks that are copied (#mx). This has to be set to
0 in /etc/printcap if there should be no limit.

Is this a postscript job. Is the number of pages or is it the size of
the print "file" that creates the error? I know it's somewhat wasteful
to print 200 empty pages, but the file would be smaller and you could
check if it's size related (by counting the number of empty pages after
printing :).

1. print jobs stopping on last page (Sparc 20 w/Sun T.S.)

For  some time we have been experiencing problems when printing through our
Sun (Xylogics) 48 Port Terminal Server.  On random occasions, a print job will
halt on the last page of a printout, no form feed, no nothing.  It does not
appear to be related to flow control because large print jobs go through
without a hitch (unless of course they stop on the last page).  If you send
the same file again, the same thing happens.  If you modify the file slightly,
it usually goes through fine the next time. It appears to be a problem
with the terminal server, however, no amount of configuration of the
terminal server seems to fix this problem.

I knew it was a slim chance, but I waited for Solaris 2.4 to see if
the problem would still plague me.  Nothing.  I've run out of clues.  Any help?

Thanks,

Greg
