Paradise Bahamas 64 VGA problem: Text screen looses characters

Post by Juergen Luks » Tue, 25 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Hi,

i have a problem with an Paradise Bahamas 64 PCI VGA-adapter:

when switching between graphics and text-mode the first text screen
(tty01) looses some characters (the char-positions become black).
Only 'black holes' remain, but the rest of the lettes are still ok.

I've only seen this problem, when using the 1280x1024-256col mode, but
i've seen it on three different PC's, all with the same hardware and
ODT 3.0.

Hardware & Software:

ALR Revolution MP Pentium 90 64Mb memory
Adaptec 2942 PCI Host-adapter
Paradise Bahamas 64 PCI 2MB (uses S3 Vision864 chip)

SCO Open Server 3.0
Adaptec AIC-7870 Driver 1.4
EFS140aga
TLS067b (aga for S3-chipsets)

I don't think this is a hardware problem, because we do have three pc's,
all of them with the same problem.

Any help appreciated.

1. Is a Paradise Bahamas 64 video card worth it?

I am considering buying a Paradise Bahamas 64 VL-Bus Graphics Accelerator Card
with 2 MB of Ram from Surplus Direct for $69. I would like anybody's opinion as
to whether this is a good card or not.  It seems pretty good but I want to also
know if anybody has had any problems with it or not. Accelerated X does support
it so I am okay in that department. Thanks in advance for any help you can
supply. Also if you have one please tell me about it and how substantial a
speed improvement it has given you. Ciao
