Changing IP address of SCO OS 5.02....

Post by George Graha » Mon, 15 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I am preparing to change the Internet connection on my SCO OS 5.02 server.
It seems to me that I saw information posted here that suggested it wasn't
as straight forward a process as I thought. Anyone know where to direct me
for more information?

Yep.  The problem is that the names and IP addresses are
scattered thoughout the system in numerous locations.  See:
        http://www.cruzio.com/~jeffl/sco/new_name.txt

I did not not include any info on DNS, AFPS, Internet Services
for 3.2v5.0.4, sendmail or LMC.  If you have any information on
these, I would like to add it to the list.

There is also:
        http://www.sco.com/cgi-bin/ssl_reference?105779
which is rather incomplete.

I recently took delivery on a "turnkey" 3.2v5.0.4 system that
arrived configured for someone elses network.  I managed to
change most everything without much trouble.  However, Netscape
still appears claiming that the system is called "scosysv.uucp".
I can't seem to find where this is buried.  It's no big deal but
it bugs me.  Any hints?

Beware of the pomapper error if you change the IP address using the network
GUI configurator

Changing IP address of SCO OS 5.02....

Yeah, but it's a very simple problem.  I ran into it when I tried
to change the IP address with 3.2v5.0.4 scoadmin.  I ended up
with an /etc/hosts that looked like this:

127.0.0.1       localhost
192.168.0.1     machine.domain   # the old IP address
192.168.100.1   machine.domain   # the new IP address

Notice that there are two IP addresses for the local machine
(actually for the local ethernet interface).  The portmapper
would attempt to get its own IP address by scanning /etc/hosts
until it comes to the FIRST matching name.  It would pick the old
address and then complain that it can't map any IP ports to that
IP address.  Apparently scoadmin isn't smart enough to delete the
old IP address line before adding a new one.  Deleting the old IP
address line fixed the problem.

1. Perl 5.004_04 with dynamic loading under SCO OS 5.02

If anybody is interested, I have also successfully compiled PERL
5.004_004 with dynamic loading under SCO OS 5.02 .  My version uses
the vanilla sources found on the CPAN archives and compiles a little
easier than the Celestial version.  If you want more information (such
as the config.sh file I used) visit:
