OSR5.0.0 ==> OSR5.0.4 UIP Errors

Post by Lucky Leavel » Mon, 14 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Last night I started the in place upgrade from OSR5.0.0 (with rsD, net100,
etc) to OSR5.0.4 (both Enterprise).

At 87%, I received the following error:

Error: a2x0 is not installed on this system
Error: Please install it and rerun /usr/lib/netconfig/init/sco_tcp
Error: Cannot configure lo0 under sco_tcp
Error: Loopback driver must be the last sco_tcp driver removed

    Error: Netconfig add_partial failed

a2x0 is the Kingston-supplied driver for the KNE2121 NIC; I assumed I
could simply install later, so I chose (I)gnore and continued.

Several minutes later, again at 87%, I received another error:

drt/Driver.o                [Part of the message may have scrolled
off]
    v_hthashqs
                /var/opt/K/SCO/link/1.1.0Eb/etc/conf/pack.d/drt/Driver.o
    v_htcacheents
                /var/opt/K/SCO/link/1.1.0Eb/etc/conf/pack.d/drt/Driver.o

    i386ld fatal: System referencing errors.
        No output written to unx.
ERROR: Can not link edit unix.

    idbuild: idmmkunix had errors
        System build failed.

    Error: kernel link failed.

Again, figuring I had nothing to lose, I chose (I)gnore and it continued
to the reboot.  Then I received the following errors:

    System auditing is not enabled
can't find MP_SYSINFO in this kernel
    Print services started.

The boot to multiuser continued except it stayed a long time at the TCP/IP
start up part. It eventually continuued except that I receive the
following errors for every line in the inittab:

    /etc/getty tty07 sc_m (date/time stamp)
Cannot fork to run /tcb/lib/initcond: Resource temporarily unavailable
        (error 11)

The system did come up but the hwconfig shows no swap or dump (= none).
The attempted login as root on tty01 failed with

    LOGIN: ... resource temporarily unavailable

Is there any way to recover or do I start over? Must I do a fresh install?

Hardware: 486-50DX2 with 16MB RAM
Adaptec 1542B comatible SCSI host adapter (uses ad driver)
5 SCSI hard drives (> 700MB in root partition)
          64MB swap
         Hitachi CDR-3750S at id 5

(This hardware has successfully installed/run SCO since ODT 1.1)

I do have a set of Lone-Tar Airbag diskettes for the old OSr5.0.0 system;
I haven't been able to create any such for the new one yet.

Thank you,
Lucky

I am replying to my own messge to supply more details:

I determined that drt is part of the Olympus Software stuff, so I fired up
SCOadmin (custom) and removed it.  The kernel link failed agin with the
message:

    drt/space.o
    vkbdopen    /var/opt/K/SCO/link/1.1.0Eb/etc/conf/pack.d/drt/space.o
    vmseopen    /var/opt/K/SCO/link/1.1.0Eb/etc/conf/pack.d/drt/space.o

i386ld fatal: Symbol referencing errors: No output to unix.
ERROR: Can not link edit unix.

    idbuild: idmkunix had errors
    System build failed

Methinks I shall attempt manual removal of the ../drt subdirectory (I have
a copy of the entire /etc tree on another fs)...

Quote:> The system did come up but the hwconfig shows no swap or dump (= none).

Oops! Helps to remove the boot diskette first; swap nd dump look normal.
