SCO and NCR systems

Post by PRenna25 » Sun, 15 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I am concidering purchasing a used NCR 3445  (yes I'm sure some of you are
asking WHY just buy a PC, but beleive me there is some issues that make
this system at least worth looking at),    I am looking perhaps to put it
on the internet.  When the system was purchased, there was an option to
have SCO or NCR Unix, unfortunely NCR Unix was chosen (BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!),
so I know it can be run on the system.  But I also know from working on
it, NCR seems to have a different method of handeling there BIOS.

The BIG question is can I load  my SCO Open Server 5.02 (not free!!)and
Fast Start on this system (my version is for a standard PC),  or does it
take a special version to deal with the way they handle the BIOS.

Sure hope someone can help,  thanks in advance for you time

SCO and NCR systems

Howdy,

NCR has (or had?) a boot time loadable driver for 3.2v4.2.  I do not know
if they have one for OSR5.x.  I've scanned their web site (www.ncr.com,
pretty good site overall) and find nothing about SCO.  Depending on the
version of the SCSI controller, a driver might come from either NCR (7xx
series) or Symbios Logic (just the 8xx series SCSI's).  I believe the 3445
supports dual Pentiums.

SCO's line (from the HW compatibility book) says you require drivers from
NCR.

Good luck.  The MCA machines perform okay (but not great); I hope that's
adequate.

1. Install SCO OpenServer 5 on NCR SCSI system, how?

Please help me to solve the installation problem of my system with NCR
SCSI controller cards installed.

Configuration:

1.) NCR 53c875 (ASUS SC875) Ultra Wide SCSI Controller
- IBM DORS-32160 UW-SCSI 2GB Hard Disk
- SANYO 4X SCSI-2 CD-ROM

2.) NCR 53c810 (ASUS SC200) SCSI-2 Controller
- IOMEGA JAZ 1GB

3.) On-board EIDE Controller
- Creative Infra18oo 12X IDE CD-ROM

When I boot from the SCO boot disk, I entered following at the prompt:
        Boot: Link <Enter>
        "slha" <Enter>

However, it hanged up finally!

May I know how can I accomplish the installation?

Please help via email, thanks!
