Are you talking about a single connection to the Internet, or setting
up an ISP to support ISDN?
Probably the easiest way to handle the simple connection is with an
Ascend Pipeline 25 which connects your network to your ISP via an ISDN
line, and is independent of any of the systems on your LAN. The
biggest problem with these today is that their IP filtering is minimal
at best, and you had better trust your ISP to block any nasties like
source routing and spoofing. This will change in the future as Ascend
has bought Morning Star, and will be using the Morning Star security
software. This is a new deal, and I haven't heard anything definate
about plans, scheduling, or what's going to happen to the Morning Star
routers (which are our preferred routers because of their security
capabilities and ease of use for a Unix knowledable person).

i would be happy if someone knew about good such software.

: i'm asking about software _for_ SCO unix to make

Basically there's no software required for this beyond turning on IP
forwarding in the SCO box and setting the LAN machines to point to the
SCO system as their gateway. The methods for turning on forwarding
differ between OSR-5 and earlier versions (it's in the advanced
options of the NIC TCP/IP parameters setup on OSR-5 and the earlier
versions ask whether you want to turn on routing when adding the
second NIC or PPP).
Beyond the basics, you really should have good IP filtering such as
that provided with Morning Star PPP, and other security software on
your system when connecting to the Internet. At a minimum this
includes tcp_wrappers, COPS, and tripwire.
We always use a standalone router and CSU/DSU when connecting to the
Internet rather than depending on a Unix host to handle this part
since it provides better security and flexibility.

We use NetGW and NetISDN with Diehl-ISDN-Cards. This works for us since
three years. We use it in three routers.

1. Win98 connect to internet via linux router with ISDN card (ISDN configured yet)
Hello!
I sorted out how to configure my Redhat 7 machine for autodial on demand.
Now I want to let my Win98 clients connect to the internet via the linux
machine. Is there any howto?
Perhaps I can tell my config:
eth0 (linuxrouter): 192.168.0.3
other machines: 192.168.0.[1-5]
netmask 255.255.255.0
Win98 clients are configured as follows:
gateway: 192.168.0.3
dns: DNS_of_my_ISP
What route do i have to set to make it work? I enabled ip forwarding. And I
have set a default route to my ipppd device.
Could anyone help?
Thanks in advance
