I had the same problem, the thing I found is that the web-server uses the
same password checking routine as UNIX, therefor you can copy a password
right out of the shadow file and it will work.

I am trying to password protect some dir's under my
web root dir using .htaccess files.

However, I cannot find a program to generate these password files
normally called htpasswd (?).

It also seems that the man pages have gone haywire ever since I moved
the web root dir.

anybody knows what program to use under OS rel. V ??
