We are in need of a HTTP / FTP / NEWS proxy server to run on SCO
OpenServer 5.0 to service Unix, WIN95 and WFW clients. All systems
are connected directy via tcp/ip 10 megabit ethernet.  Any help or
information would be great.

Thanks,

SCO has announced upcoming availability of the Netscape Proxy server
(and many other pieces) -- see

  http://www2.sco.com/products/proxy.htm
  http://www2.sco.com/products/products.htm
  http://www.sco.com/

Other third party & public domain servers are available as well, e.g.
the Spinner web server (http:///www.infovav.se/) has HTTP and FTP proxy
services.

Harvest's home page used to be http://harvest.cs.colorado.edu, but I'm
not sure that Harvest is an appropriate tool to build proxy server: I
had an impression that Harvest is rather a tool to create effective
search/storage systems dealing with information on the Net (indexes,
inter-server communications, etc.), although I never worked/installed
this product, so I can easily be plain wrong.

Harvest cached can be configured as a proxy server.  The latest freeware
version is now named squid.  http://www.nlanr.net/Squid/

No, you are incorrect there. I have the harvest cache running on
http://cqit.qld.edu.au/ and it does a fine job. Straight out of the box.
That system is BSDI, but in the compile, there didn't seem to be
to many gotchas, other than needing lots of disk space :-)

Proxy and caching work fine. Very complex in some areas, but then, just start
with the cache only install. And... read the README files. MOST important.

Try CERN HTTPD (which I use); free, and nicely packaged by Ian Peattie,
and can be had form

ftp.demon.co.uk in /pub/unix/SCO/http*

Its set up ready to do an install via "custom".

It is a proxy, and server.

1. Looking for Unix Modem Share Product For SCO.

Hi All,

We are presently looking for a solution that allows PC's connected
via TCP/IP to be able to share modems actually connect to the SCO
Unix System.  In other words instead of say connecting to com2 which
is a local modem on the PC, we would connect to a remote modem
on the unix box.  There are several products out there to do this with
NT and also with dedicated terminal/modem servers etc.  But I have
been unable to locate one for SCO Unix. If you can
provide any solutions please either email me directly or post them.
Presently we have been teleneting in to the Unix system but that limits
us to the products that we can use to do the communications.

Thanks,
