VisionFS Help Please

Post by Justin Weather » Thu, 23 Jul 1998 04:00:00

We have just upgraded to OSR 5.0.4 . and have Vision FS 2.0 installed.
Unfortunately I can't find any info about how to use it.
The README.vfs refers to a Profile Editor in SCO, but I can't find it.  I
found a link at www.vision.sco.com to an article about installing and
configuring it, but no document was retrieved.
Any info or advice you might offer is welcome.
Thank you,
-justin

Justin,

You can download the manual (Adobe Acrobat pdf format) from:
http://www.sco.com/vision/eval/manuals.html

There's also general product info on:
http://www.sco.com/vision/products/visionfs/info.html

Best regards

Matthew Schofield

The Profile Editor is run from your Windows95/NT Network Neighborhood
in the \\machine\visiontools\visionfs directory structure.

Where is Unix Neighbourhood mentioned? Unix Neighbourhood is a unix file
system and file transfer utility included with SCO Vision Family
products that contain PC components (XVision, TermVision,
SQL-Retriever). It is not used in any capacity with VisionFS. VisionFS
simply shares up selected parts of the Unix file system and Unix
printers as Windows resources. These are then accessible through Windows
networking e.g. Network Neighbourhood.

You get the UNIX Neighborhood as part of Xvision Eclipse (the PC
X Server), not VisionFS.

Dave.

Thanks for the helpguys.
I actually stumbled upon it a couple of minutes after I sent that message.
I mapped the network drive and then ran the editor.
Finally access to my files!!!  Now I can work around that incapable
ODBC driver.

I am curious about the UNIX Neighborhood that is mentioned.  On my 95 box
there is no unix nbrhood.  Only Network Neighborhood.  how can I view the
UNIX nbrhood?

-thanks

1. Please...please help (VisionFS & Win2k Pro)

Hello all:

Since my other message I have a bit more info. I'm running OpenServer 5.05
with all patches up to yr2000 and the latest VisionFS 3.00.925. I have
Client for MS network, internet tcp/ip, netbeui installed on the W2k. My
server's name is "altscov5" but in VisionFS I called it "fred" and the
domain is "alltemp" and I have it set to Provide network logon services. In
W2k under network identification I have set the computer name but I had to
set the visionfs domain under WORKGROUP, under domain it does not work.

I can connect to all the other Win95/98 systems with no problems but when I
try to browse or net view \\fred I get a message "\\Fred is not accessible,
A remote procedure call (RPC) protocol error occurred". I can do a direct
use though dos and it works fine "net use e: \\fred\download yes" so the
password is being pass through. And I can run the profedit.exe through a net
use z: \\fred\visiontools. Ping by ip or name works from both sides so the
hosts files are fine and I tried setting the W2K to use lmhosts with
"192.0.0.113    fred    #PRE".

Please...please help,
Thanks
