Compile shared softwares on SCO 5.0

Post by Tien-Hsu L » Wed, 24 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Hello! Everyone:

I am new to SCO UNIX. How to compile shared softwares on SCO 5.0?
I just type "make", and it responds with "make: not found".
   Should I install any supplements?

You have to have a development system. The OS5 development system
includes make. If you do not have the OS5 devsys and don't want to buy
that, you still have the chance to get something compiled by using all
the great GNU stuff (C/C++, make, ld, libs, ...). You can do that
since SCO delivers includes and libs with the base OS. How and where
to get that ... sorry, I haven't looked because I have the devsys.

The libraries and the GNU stuff are custom installable from the
distribution CD....

You should purchase and install the development system, or
alternatively install the headers & libraries etc. and find a
copy of gcc.  The base OS does not include the tools you need
to compile programs.

See the FAQ for more information on finding gcc.

The instructions are in the FAQ for one and all to see.  The FAQ
was just posted a couple of hours ago so by the time you see this
note, the FAQ should have just made a fresh appearance on your
system.

1. Shared COFF libraries for SCO 5.0

Hi,

Does SCO provide Shared COFF libraries for SCO 5.0 for X
(libXtXm_s, libX11_s, ...)?

We are trying to release a product being compiled on SCO 5.0.4.
In the previous release, we compiled with SCO 3.2v4.2 using the COFF
shared libraries.  Now, since we have ported to SCO 5.0.4, we have managed
to get everything running fine on SCO 5.0.4, however the binaries have
become too large for CDMT to fit onto floppies since the X Shared
libraries are no longer available.  We need to compile COFF binaries since
we have an install base of SCO 3.2v4.2 customers.

I tried to just copy the libXtXm_s.a library from one of our
SCO3.2v3.2 machines to the SCO 5.0.4 machine, but that had lots of runtime
errors.....

        Thanx for any help.
