By searching the web a bit, I determined that this is a 6x speed ATAPI
CD-ROM.
Given that, the messages definitely suggest that the drive is not
compatible. It could also be a problem with the IDE controller (e.g.
the BIOS may be programming it for an unusable PIO mode).
Three things you could try:
1. In BIOS setup, see if you have per-unit control of PIO modes. If
so, set the CD-ROM to a slower PIO mode (go to 0).
2. Move it from its current seconday/master position to primary/slave.
This may convince your BIOS to program it for a better PIO mode.
3. Try the latest OpenServer IDE driver, oss451a (see
ftp://ftp.sco.com/SLS/.)
If it still doesn't work in the primary/slave position and using the
latest driver, then it really is incompatible.
