ping 2nd NIC works, but not ftp or telnet

Post by rcama.. » Sun, 23 Jan 2000 04:00:00

This has been driving me nuts:

I have os5.0.5a that originally had an Intel 100B NIC card in an Intel
OEM machine, dual Pentium 200mmx.  ping, telnet and ftp worked fine.

I added a second card, Intel 100+.  I intend to run dhcpc on the 100+
card, but after I installed my 100+ card, my 100B card stopped working.
From windoz, I can ping the 100B card, but telnet hangs and ftp just
says "connected to xxxx".

In addtion, when SCO boots, i get an error on S90atlas.  "...S90atlas
did not respond for 120 seconds..."  Or something like that.
I have removed both cards, added the orginal back in, nothing seems to
work.  I also ran scoadmin>system>verify system

in the GUI, I can not run "Internet configuration"  I get an error
about it unable to talk to 615...localhost...

I'm not sure what else to post, '/etc/tcp' so any guidance will be
appreciated.
Rob

ping 2nd NIC works, but not ftp or telnet

Hi,

Have you configured both the cards with different IP (Don't angry . I hope
you did not do that).
Check the Net mask & the boardcast address for the two cards.Check for the
correct NIC drivers.
Bcos ping is upto network layer level but telnet & ftp comes in the
transport layer level.
I hope the card is not properly installed . SCO sometimes will not say any
error if the card will not installed properly . But you said ping is working
there might be driver problem also .
Whether you select the NIC card from the list or it will detect
automatically . please check & reply if possible

Thank you

1. slip:ping/pong works but not ftp/telnet (tcp)

Sorry about the last empty article!

Please help.
I'm am trying to set up linux so that I can log onto
to the internet via my local slip system (using dynamic ip addressing)
My dip script seems to work fine and I can 'ping' far remote sites
to my hearts content - using name addressing as well as ip addressing.
(I can ping localhost 127.0.0.1 and 127.0.0.0) -
`nslookup' works fine.

The problem occurs when I start to run ftp/telnet (tcp stuff), I connect
to a site but no packets - in the form of text on my screen -
come back, apart from an acknowledgement that I have established a link.
I checked my /etc/services to make sure my sockets are all correct.
I have checked rc.inet1 (ifconfigs 127.0.0.1 and routes as lo device)
rc.inet2 which sets up hostname and domain names as well as
daemons (inetd, syslogd and others - NOT named)

Below is the output from running ifconfig/route -n
after connection to the local phone/slip host gunn.pavilion.co.uk(193.131.160.37).
I have established a slip link and have been given the
dynamic ip address of 193.131.160.98
All of which is confirmed by the verbose Dip script.

I would like to know what the 'N' means in my route table?
Hope someone can help!

Many Thanks.

I am running version Net2.0e Stuff

NB: my routing does not support METRIC even though ifconfig can set it
- If I need to, how would I set metric and other flags in dip?
