In my limited experience, sendmail is what you need.  If anyone knows how to
get mmdf to do something this complicated, I'd sure like to know about it-
Sendmail can be frustratingly complicated, but I've heard that MMDF doesn't
have the flexibility to handle multiple message delivery agents.

Setting up UUCP and SMTP to the Internet or another machine is something
that can be done in either.  MMDF is also somewhat difficult to setup, but
multiple channels are definitely possible.   I think there are advantages
of each, and I understand that sendmail has some nice routines that can be
added for eliminating SMTP relays, etc..

Far from it; that is actually MMDF's specialty... the first M is for
'Multichannel'.  MMDF's simple table-driven design makes it straightforward to
build such a configuration.  I have 19 uucp sites I communicate with, along
with intranet & Internet sites.  The decision on which MTA to use would
certainly be based on other criteria.

This is not true at all.  It is, in fact exactly what I do (with MMDF).

SCO are planning on dropping MMDF, so from a long term perspective I would
suggest you go with sendmail. Plus it gives you job security after you get
it running. (Just barely kidding)

Oh, I suppose I'd do with a certain amount of forethought.

How would *you* do it?

Quote:> how would you configure pop & mmdf

Specifically, what's the question?

Do you mean for use of POP3 on an intranet for users internally?

Or do you mean for POP3 mail collection from (probably) an ISP for
local delivery?

Or do you mean something else entirely?

1. How to convert SCO 5.0.4 from MMDF to Sendmail..?

Hi everyone,

I have a simple question which probably doesn't have a simple answer.
Basically, I want our SCO 5.0.4 box to use sendmail instead of MMDF as
the MTA.

I know thaw sendmail is installed, but how would I go about making it
the default MTA, and also having MMDF "forward" the mail the sendmail?
I figure that it would be more than just changing starting the
sendmail service and stopping the MMDF service.

Are there any man pages or URL's that I should check out?

Thanks in advance.

Will
