mkdev tape - has gone awry

mkdev tape - has gone awry

Post by Gary Finfroc » Tue, 28 Jan 1997 04:00:00

I have an HP LH Pro Dual 200 MHz , 128 MB.

I have an external QIC on alad ha=1 id =2
I have an internal Dat  on alad ha=0 id =2

I had these tapes setup correctly once.  I decided to change the id on the
external from 4 (original setting) to 2.  Ran mkdev tape to remove QIC,
reboot, install Qic with id 2, but it bombed out.  It won't let me remove
the old Qic id 4 setting so it looks like I have three tapes and I can 't
remove the third.

Anyone seen how to clear out tape setting completely and start over without
have to reinstall SCO????

When you say "remove QIC", "install Qic", etc., it isn't very clear what
you're doing.  `mkdev tape` supports the old QIC02 and QIC36 tape drives
that have their own controllers.  It also supports QIC40 and QIC80 "tape
drives" (I use the term advisedly) that run off floppy controllers.
Suppose you capture one of these sessions with `script` so we can see
what you're actually doing?

SCO's a decent sized company, it wouldn't fit on your computer.  One of
the operating systems produced by SCO might, if you'd care to name which
one and what version...

I've come across this problem a couple times. What I do is when the prob
already is there (such as in your case), remove all the entries with mkdev
tape -> remove tape
Rebuild kernel. There will be error messages. Reboot.
Start mkdev tape again and look how many tape units still (seem) to be
installed.
Then look at /etc/comf/cf.d/mscsi and add here a Stp line, ie something like:
cha   Stp   0   6   0   0
for every tape unit that mkdev tape mentions. (change id's)
Then remove with mkdev tape the tape devices. Build new kernel and reboot.
Now the system knows again that there should be no tape drives at all. And
you can start all over.
But it is best to remove the genereic SCSI tape device right after complting
the installation.

Lot of luck.

mkdev tape - has gone awry

Post by Trever Mill » Sat, 01 Feb 1997 04:00:00

I've seen similar problems wherein if you goof up on entering the
irq or i/o port address and press Q to quit, the various conf
files get all confused and out of sync wrt scsi devices.

I ended up having to edit the conf files by hand to remove the
half-toasted entries and then mkdev tape to create it properly.

This has happened on 3 different machines, with SCO OS5 3.2v5.0.0
and 3.2v5.0.2

1. Repost: Problems with Apache and PHP - first post went awry

I have tried with the newest versions of Apache and PHP. I have tried
with the versions that came with the book "Core PHP Programming" (I am
using the instructions from the book to compile). I have tried using
Slackware 4.0 and Mandrake 6.0, and I always get the same result.

Apache 1.3.9      (tried 1.3.3 with PHP3)
Mysql  3.22.25
PHP4   0b2        (tried PHP3 once)

I untar Mysql, PHP, and Apache in /usr/local.

Run configure, make, and make install on Mysql.

I do './configure --prefix=/www'   for Apache

Then  './configure --with-mysql --with-apache=../apache_1.3.x --enable-
track-vars' (where x = version number), make, make install    for PHP4
(tried PHP3 once too).

Followed by  './configure --prefix=/www --activate-
module=src/modules/phpx/libmodphpx.a' (where x is version), make. (for
Apache)

I get several errors running make. The first is Apache can't find some
.h files related to PHP. I copy those files to the Apache PHP4
modules directory then run make again. More errors related to .h files.
This time it is looking for zend*.h, config.unix.h, and modules.h files
that are in PHP's libzend directory. Move those to the Apache PHP4 module
directory and run make again. This time I get the following errors:

modules.o (.data+0x48): undefined reference to modphp4_module
modules.o (.data+0x98): undefined reference to modphp4_module

I looked through the link messages and verified (as far as I can tell
anyway) all the libraries in question do exist where the linker is
looking for them. Is modphp4_module imbedded in another file, because I
have been unable to find it? Any help will be greatly appreciated (before
I suffer from self-induced baldness :)

Thanks in advance.
