Help: DPT SCSI controller with SLS 1.01

Post by Mike Frankows » Thu, 29 Apr 1993 09:53:33

: I have a Dell 466/ME with a IDE disk (drive C) and a CDC Wren 5 SCSI disk.
: The SCSI controller is a DPT SCSI PM 2012B/90 controller.
: I use the SCSI disk under MS DOS 6.0 (as Drive D and E) without problem,
: but when I tried to install SCSL 1.01 on the 3rd partition of the SCSI
: disk, the kernel doesn't detect the SCSI controller, neither the SCSI disk.
: "fdisk /dev/sda3" also give me "cannot not open /dev/sda3" error.

: My questions are:
: 1.Does SLS support this SCSI controller?
: 2.If 1 is yes, how to make the kernel detect the SCSI copntroller?

Put it in WD compat mode, not in EATA mode to use linux.

1. In WD Mode.  The 2012 *ALWAYS* comes up in WD mode to boot.  Try
using fdisk /dev/hda instead of /dev/sda and it should appear.

More than Likely DOS is using it in WD emulation also,  ie DOS just sees
a giant MFM/IDE drive.

2.  use /dev/hda* instead of /dev/sda*

1. sls 1.01 scsi tape install bug report and fix

There is a problem in sls 1.01 if you want to install from scsi tape because /dev/rmt0 and /dev/nrmt0 are block device instead of character device when you boot from a1.3 (i didn't test a1.5).

the fix is after you boot from a1.3 :
rm /dev/rmt0
rm /dev/nrmt0
mknod /dev/rmt0 c 9 0
mknod /dev/nrmt0 c 9 128

then doinstall ....
