Very Computer

Everytime I exit from X, my text mode is not restored...I can still type
and exec commands, but can't see what I'm typing. If I were to run X in
mono, when I exit, every 2nd letter is not displayed :-

eg l g u <- "logout" etc.

As for colour, when I exit, my whole screen goes blank...can't see a
thing!! Do I have to modify my Xconfig or get a utility or what??
