help with viewing web page and sending/receiving mail on the internal LAN network

Post by Lui » Thu, 29 May 2003 15:06:17

Hi

i have setup my own web hosting and mail server using red hat 8.0 and
an adsl router/modem.

I can view the web page from the internet and i can send and receive
mail from the internet but i cannot view the web page or send and
receive mail internally from a local machine on the lan.  It is a
windows 2000 workstation.

How do i setup iptables to allow the local lan machines to access the
web page and send and receive mail internally?

In the network settings, what should i have as my dns settings and my
host settings?  At the moment, i have the primary dns server to be the
ip address of the adsl modem and the secondary dns server to be the
ISP ip address.  The host name is configured as 127.0.0.1
mymachinename.mydomain.com  mydomain.com.  Is this correct?

thanks

If your trying to use you linux box to connect to the internet
then you need to set your windows box to use the linux box as the
gateway. Use your ISP's DNS unless your are running your own DNS.

I haven't used windows in 5 or 6 years so you'll have to figure
that end of it out.
