bogus do_no_page messages

Post by Gary Thomps » Wed, 28 Oct 1992 02:04:43

I've been getting a lot of spurrious 'bogus do_no_page' messages.  I
haven't noticed any ill-effects and have been ignoring them, but I
was curious as to why they would occur.  I'm still a newbie and wasn't
able to glean much about do_no_page from the source (though I'd
welcome any helpful tutorials. :)

For what it's worth, I'm running 0.98p1 on an ancient Compaq 386
with a 300M ESDI drive.

Thanks,
Gary

bogus do_no_page messages

According to Michael K. Johnson and Brendan B. Boerner (who have it
on authority from Linus himself), the bogus do_no_page warnings can
safely be commented out.  Apparently they are not harmful and are
indicative of an older, buggier CPU (which my ancient Compaq most
likely is).

Thanks!

1. bogus ethernet in /var/adm/messages

I am getting the following lines in /var/adm/messages and do not know what the
problem is.  I also get errors in the output from ifconfig on el0 which I am
assuming correspond to these errors.  Any ideas what is going on or if I
should worry about this?

Oct  3 07:41:00 world kernel: eth0: bogus packet size: 0, status=0x1
nxpg=0x3e.Oct  3 07:42:47 world kernel: eth0: bogus packet size: 0, status=0x1

nxpg=0x2e.Oct  3 07:43:57 world kernel: eth0: bogus packet size: 0, status=0x1
