Help with Xconfig settings.... please!

I have a Diamond SpeedStar+ (1Mb 256 Colors 1024x768 non-interlaced) and
a 14" MAG MX14H monitor... I have tried many configurations, but I still
cannot get X to start... when I type startx, the monitor loses sync and
goes really wierd. I have to do a C_A_BS to kill it... does anyone have
any suggestions of Xconfig files to get this to work? Please email so I
can get this working... Thanx!

I have a similar problem  (only 640x480 works fine). After playing with the video timing
I had the 800x600 mode running, but heavily flickering. Looks like interlaced, but it isn't.
I can't really help you, but there's a better way to stop X: Don't move the mouse and type
"exit". That should bring you back to the character-mode.

1. PLEASE HELP: Monitor and Xconfig setting

Hello ALL!

I have an Cheer monitor and I have one question:

Xconfig detects a 640x480 mode while Config runs.
As this is to small I checked modeDB.txt and took the VESA settings for
800x600. This are about 5 settings. I put them in Xconfig in that order and
added (different) identifierers and the ordered dot clocks on the clock line.

When I start Xfree it starts with the 640 one. Then I switch to the next
800 resolutions. Only the last entry works correctly with no flicker and
brings a good picture.
Now I thought I delete the other 4 800 settings.
Now I had in my Xconfig the two dot clocks for 640 and 800 and the two "..."
and of course the corresponding sync lines.
As I started Xfree again the 640 worked ok but as I switched to the 800x600
there was garbage (nothing one could call a picture) EVEN THOUGH it worked
when I switched from 640 to the 4x800 to the final 800 at the setting before
the change as stated above.
Can anybody help me ?
BTW I have a ET4000.
