pppd problem in a ps/1

pppd problem in a ps/1

Post by [Bad-Knees » Sun, 07 Jan 2001 07:37:57

I have a ibm ps/1 25MHZ 6MB ram. I had to install my Debian Potato on a
different computer because 6MB ram isent enough to install Debian. I
tried my ppp-connection over a isdn modem, and everything was just fine.
I then moved my HardDrive over to my Ps/1, after recompiling and
configuring then system to run with minimum ram. And everything is ok,
exept my ppp connection. When i try to connect, i see my on the lights
on my modem that it is connecting and chatting/authenticating, but then
it just dies. The system log says that everything is fine, it just
"disconnnects".
Is this somekinda hardware problem, or am i totally alone with this
problem:)

ps. I have tried alot of different thing, and im sure there is nothing
wrong with my setup, unless a ps/1 needs a special setup

Did you configure the other modem?  Check out your messages and ppp.log
messages.  To do so:

When you dial on one vterminal Alt-f2 or whatever to another free terminal.
Type "tail -f /var/log/messages"  see if it tells you anything.  You can
also "tail -f  /var/log/messages > captured_file, then review captured file.
You will need to hit Ctrl+C to stop tail from displaying the log entries.
/var/log/ppp.log gives more specific ppp detail but messages log is usually
detailed enough.

1. pppd dial ins and , "LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests"

Hi, Ive setup pppd to accept dialins on FreeBSD 4.3,
this is what i got in /var/log/messages when people try to connect:

Jul 15 21:42:19 e-l33t pppd[25891]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyd0
Jul 15 21:42:49 e-l33t pppd[25891]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Jul 15 21:42:49 e-l33t pppd[25891]: Connection terminated, connected for 1
minutes

now , I read somewhere that this could have something to do with gre
stealing the lcp packets,
but i'm sure i didnt compile gre into my kernel.

( Also, I set the modem to ATS0=1 and saved it with AT&W0 , so it auto
answers, and this works fine )

# cat options
            ms-dns 192.168.0.2
            domain lamenet.org.au
            lock
            proxyarp
            crtscts
            115200
            modem
            +pap
            lcp-max-configure 40 // recently added, not tested
#
# cat pap-secrets
# Secrets for authentication using PAP
# client        server  secret          acceptable local IP addresses
  dialin        *       "password"        *
#
# cat options.ttyd0
192.168.0.7:192.168.0.8 # ip's of local and remote hosts

# cat options.ttyd1
192.168.0.7:192.168.0.8 # ip's of local and remote hosts
#

And in /etc/ttys

# cat /etc/ttys | grep ppp
ttyd0   "/usr/sbin/pppd"                dialup  on  secure
ttyd1   "/usr/sbin/pppd"                dialup  on  secure
#

Thanks :)
