Need Xconfig for Cirrus CL-5426VL VGA card under Linux

Post by Seng-Poh Lee, Spee » Wed, 21 Jul 1993 00:00:33

I just upgraded my video card to a VESA Local bus CL-5426VL Cirrus clone
and have not had any success getting the Xconfig right. I'm running the
Cirrus 1.2 beta version of X386 that was based on X11 1.1, I think. If anyone
has a working Xconfig, I'd appreciate a copy. I'm running in standard
640x480x256 mode, since I don't have a Multisync monitor.

I know I should upgrade to the latest X, but I don't have enough disk
space allocated and it would mean a major re-organization, which I
WILL do later, but I just want to get back running for now.

Thanks

I have the same SVGA card. I had installed SLS version (Xfree 1.2), and then
had installed and compiled xkit1.3 (on sunsite). No Xconfig changes are needed:
X will find the 5426 without any help (you may have problem with your monitor,
though).

I have a Genoa 8500VL (Cirrus 5426-based, local bus) card that I just installed
to replace a Trident.  The thing you have to watch for is that the default
Xconfig will automatically try to start up at 1024x768 at the fastest clock
the card will handle (80? 85?) which is way too fast for any monitor I've seen.
Try commenting out (with '#') all but the lowest (65.0?) lines in the
1024x768 section, and it should come up fine.

If your monitor won't do 1024x768 (or 800x600, or whatever) remove it from
the VideoModes line in Xconfig.

Good luck!
