I have a Genoa 8500VL (Cirrus 5426-based, local bus) card that I just installed
to replace a Trident. The thing you have to watch for is that the default
Xconfig will automatically try to start up at 1024x768 at the fastest clock
the card will handle (80? 85?) which is way too fast for any monitor I've seen.
Try commenting out (with '#') all but the lowest (65.0?) lines in the
1024x768 section, and it should come up fine.
If your monitor won't do 1024x768 (or 800x600, or whatever) remove it from
the VideoModes line in Xconfig.
Good luck!
