USER AUTHENTICATION FAILED

Post by Mustafa Youso » Tue, 24 Jun 2003 16:00:05

Hi all,
I am new to Linux. I have downloaded RH9 and installed it
successfully. After installing openssh and perl-Net-SSLeay through
webmin, I havent been able to log in locally. I am only able to log in
remotely using webmin. The error I get is "AUTHENTICATION FAILED"
after I type in my user ID and PASS locally. The user ID and PASS is
correct. This problem exists for all users including root. Is there
some settings that I need to change under PAM? Or do I need to do
anything special while installing the openssh and perl-Net-SSLeay? I
have tried creating new users via webmin but still I am not able to
log in locally. Please help me out with this, I would hate to
reinstall Red Hat 9.

Login via webmin or boot single user and check the log files in /var/log for
more detailed information.

1. USER AUTHENTICATION FAILED

Apache doesn't seem to want to let CGI scripts take over User
Authentication, where password information is stored separately from
that created in HTPASSWD files. MSQL states in their dox that this is
Apache's problem, that it shouldn't be that way, but doesn't clearly
offer a solution.

If you've gotten around this or have some ideas, please reply.
