Trouble with PL12 compile...

Post by Frank Pikeln » Wed, 08 Sep 1993 23:03:06

Hello,

Just tried to compile Linux PL12 this weekend. I have MCC 0.99pl10+
installed, (can't recall ver. of GCC and G++ though). I know that
gcc 2.4.5 is recommended but everything seemed to compile fine. The
system now boots and when I try to change TTY (ie. ALT-F2, etc.) the
system crash with a swap partition error. Is my compiler the problem
or have I missed on something? Also the ';' key does not seem to
be working do I need to run a keyboard map?

Thanks,

This has nothing to do with your compiling the kernel.  This has to do with
the pl12 kernel using different keymaps (man this should be in the faq).  If you
are using a US keyboard, the solution is simple - delete /etc/kbmap.  This will
force the kernel to use its default keymapping - the US keymap.  If you
are not using a US keyboard, boot with an older kernel, grab the keymap kit
(to be found in the same directory you grabbed the pl12 source in) and install
the new keymap for your keyboard.  Then reboot with your new kernel.

Have fun.

1. trouble compiling pl12 --> linux/linkage.h (no such file)

Having recently destroyed the original source which came with SLS (and
which would compile) by trying to apply a patch for tape streamer,
I recently acquired the 0.99.12 source from sunsite.  I have unsuccessfully
tried to compile this source, this source patched with the 0.99.13 patch,
and the 0.99.13 source obtained from sunite.

Whenever I run 'make dep' I get the following message:

In file included from /usr/include/linux/sched.h: 61, from init/main.c: 16:
/usr/include/linux/fs.h: 9: linux/linkage.h: No such file or directory
In file included from /usr/include/linux/mm.h: 6,
from /usr/include/linux/sched.h: 62, from init/main.c: 16:
/usr/include/linux/kernel.h: 11 linux/linkage.h: No such file or directory
make:  ### [dep] Error 1

The weird thing is that there is a /usr/src/linux/linkage.h and /linux is
linked to /usr/src/linux.  I have done the standard things before running
make dep:  make mrproper, ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/linux /usr/include/linux,
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/asm /usr/include/asm, make config, etc.

Please help.  Any advice will be greatly appreciated.  Emailed replies
especially appreciated.  I'll post a summary to the net if asked to do so.

Thanks,
