Two Questions

Post by Anthony Nels » Thu, 29 Apr 1993 12:12:00

I am fairly new to Linux and was wondering where I might
find information of /proc fs. I checked the FAQ and it only
mentioned that it exists but not what it does (in detail anyway).
    Can someone enlighten me.

Another point I would like comments on. I am doing
a Master/PhD project where we need a small real time
test bed. I am planning to strip down the Linux kernel
and use this as a basis for our system. Are there any
problems with me doing this either legally, morally or
physically (and maybe mentally :^> ).  I know it won't
be easy but I am allowing a few months (4-8) to do it.
I would appreciate any comments. You may want to e-mail
me if you dont think this is of interest to others.

    Thanks in advance
    Tony Nelson.

It all became clear, Yet I was still confused.

You might wanna try Minix for this -- it is smaller, and much better
documented.

(about the only things going for Minix)

Anyhow, I'd be interested in seeing your "mock-linux".

1. 2 second question - 2 second answer

I can't remember what file to edit (I thought it was xdm) to start a window
session with a specific color depth.

I know you know! TIA...I want the start a session w/ 32-bpp...but don't want
to alias startx with that arg.
