V.35 driver for linux on PPP searching !

Post by Giusy Galant » Sat, 15 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I need a V.35 interface and driver on ISA-bus
for Linux, to make a PPP connection.

Is there someone who can tell me where can I find it?

( On the article LINUX.HOWTO.NET I read
it can be found on the site    ftp.std.com
in the directory  /pub/sdl/...
but this directory doesn't exist !!!! )

It's very important for me.
Any mail will be appreciate.
Thanks.

G'day,

it maybe difficult to obtain a V.35 ISA bus card. You maybe better off
getting a RS232<-> V.35 Interface convertor. But, if the V.35 speed is greater
than 115bps (Top speed for the 16550A), then you may need a V.24 <-> V.35 rate
adapter.

This is just an alternative method, if your original method fails..

Cheers,

        Peter Dean..

The Chip itself tops at 500 kilobaud (8 MHz Crystal).

You may always change the XTal on your serial card...

I found two V35 cards. One is from SDL which you tried to download. But
without their card that is useless. Also They are changing their ftp
site. Their only support BSDI right now. They are working on Linux and
about to relase beta version in couple of weeks. I have their card
which has 2 ports supporting 12Mbps, waiting for experimenting on
Linux.

The other company is Emerging technology. They are supposed to have
Linux support. But I did not experiment yet.

After I finished with experimenting, I am planning to resell them

: Normally, when people want V.35 they want synchronous (HDLC) operation.
: A 16550A will not do that.

Bingo....  Your best bet in this case is an external unit (like the Ascend P50)
that hooks up to your local Ethernet and also to the phone system... they cost
more (around a kilobuck) but are definitely easier and more stable to deal with.

JMHO....
