e2fsck: bad magic number in super-block

e2fsck says this about my Linux partition.  I haven't been able to create a
filesystem with mke2fs.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Maybe I am not understanding you, but if you have not been able to
create a filesystem, why are you trying to check it.  You probably
get your error because you are trying to check a filesystem
that is not extended-2 or you have not greated one at all.  If you
want people to try to help you, you must include more information
about your problem.  Go back and read the SLS docuemtation if that
is what you are installing.

1. e2fsck: bad magic number in super-block?

Hi Linux world,

I have a problem with the program e2fsck. I upgraded my kernel to .99pl14.
I was told that some new ext2fs utilities have to be upgraded as well. I
recieved e2fsprogs-0.4a.tar.gz from a sunsite mirror. Compiling was no
Problem but the e2fsck programs exits with the following error message:

e2fsck: bad magic number in super-block

Could some kind soul explane this to me? Thank you very much in advance!

Greetings,
                Frank.
