Hi John,
You're in for a bit of learning ;-)
Though, I haven't used it, KDE's kdevelop seems to be a tool of choice
for the msdev refugees.
KDE is on of the desktop UIs that ships with most distribution.
I have used glade (the GTK/gnome widget builder) for some *s ...
you'll have to get used to the difference in 'windows' programming and
behavoir.
Good luck! - mpc

If you want to use an IDE, KDevelop seems to be one of the better ones, though
a lot of people don't use IDEs.

I believe RedHat has an IDE out, though I have not checked it out.

I use a Web-based interface and it's basically as quick to write the codeQuote:> I'm wanting to dive into Linux and MySql. I don't want to spend alot of time

What is this interface like? Where to get it?Quote:> I use a Web-based interface and it's basically as quick to write the code

Then start with a command-line front-end.Quote:John Wells writes:

Might I recommend Professional Linux Programming published by Wrox.
Reason - there are a few chapters on GUI design (GTK, GNOME and KDE) as
well as chapters on MySQL and Postgresql. Its a good book to have around
for us linux newbies ...
One gotcha that is a real pain in the *is documentation ... GNOME has
some pretty good doc tools like LIDN, msdn-like
[http://www.veryComputer.com/], devhelp, a document browser program
specific to gnome docs as well as a gui browser for man and info pages.
If nothing else, I HIGHLY recommend the guibrowser for man and info
pages, hopefully it will get better and more html like.
Finally, please let me know what your experiences are with KDE ... and MySQL...

1. Help about Rapid GUI-based Application development
Hi,
I want to develop a rapid GUI-based application development environment just
as VC, VB or Delphi does. But I don't know how to start my first step.
I have programming experience in Visual C, VB, and Borland's Delphi
environment. All of these IDEs are so powerful that they divide GUI
developing from Biz logic to ease user's work. For example, in VC, you can
simply put controls in a dialogue box in resource editor, and VC compiles
the resource file into binary data. During execution, the executable will
load the binary resource and take care of the construction and destruction
of the dialogue box. It's really amazing and magic.
So, how's they do this? Is there any reference for the mechanism? and is
there any similar project free on net?
Thanks in advance,
Liang
