Dokumentation on elf-executable format?

Post by Martin Kahle » Wed, 16 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Where can I get documentation about the format of an
elf executable file?
How is such a file loaded and executed?

Background:
I want to try to program an exe compressor
(something like mlp for DJGPP)

Please reply via email, too.

Thanks in advance,
Martin.

See AT&T SYSTEM V APPLICATION BINARY INTERFACE. There is a book with
general description and for several processors there are supplements.

Have a look on ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/gnu for something with ELF
in it's filename. I have the actual docs at home somewhere...I'll
mail them to you, if I find it.

Look at

        ftp://tsx-11.mit.edu/pub/linux/packages/GCC/elf.ps.gz

It's a postscript file 'ELF - From the programmer's perspective'
