Does anyone know the status of WINE?  There used to be a newgroup,
but I can't find that now.

comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine is what you're looking for.

It's gotten a _lot_ better recently, but still not really stable;
some people apparently actually use quicken and other software under
it.  Development is also a lot faster than it was, and support for
Win32 (including Win95) apps is coming along.  It may actually be
generally useful one of these days...

getting more capable, but the previous-to-last release is less buggy
than the newest. Also, WILLOWS (a commercial emulator) was released by
Caldera under the GPL, but it may be hard to merge the sources,
because the Wine developers do not want GPL encumbrance.
